It’s Day 3 of New York Fashion Week. Here are some of the highlights:
Jill Stuart
Forget cats, if Jill Stuart has her way, Fall 2011 will be all about owl and fox prints. Unfortunately, Stuart doesn’t have the clout that Miuccia Prada does when it comes to making oddball prints cult favorites, so whether the likes of Stuart’s front row, which included Tinsley Mortimer, Nigel Barker, Mina Suvari, and Kelly Osborne, will opt for her jewel-toned animal prints, is far from a guarantee. Stuart deserves credit, however, for thinking outside of the box with her collection this season and going beyond frilly feminine dresses and separates.

Prabal Gurung
From the moment Karlie Kloss took her first exit in a striking saturated red gown, the crowd was atwitter with praise for Prabal Gurung‘s Fall collection. Never one to shy away from color (who could forget last season’s neon hued opening?), Gurung paired shocking pinks and saturated reds with deconstructed classic tailoring and statement outerwear.

ADAM
There was a definite small town vibe in the collection Adam Lippes presented for his namesake line this season. Inspired by the National Museum’s exhibition on the American Indian, the ADAM presentation was a somewhat muddled show that paired long, loose, and wearable day dresses with mismatched outerwear and a heap of plaid everything.

Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti
Did someone forget to tell the team at Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti that these were the Fall collections? It would appear so, despite the abundance of outerwear. With shorts, minis, and day dresses aplenty, this season’s collection, while playful, is untimely.
