Renowned for his colorful day dresses and easy-to-wear separates, Peter Som’s Fall collection was the ideal mix between shots of quirky spring color and appropriately autumnal silhouettes. Inspired by Cindy Sherman’s conceptual portraits, the collection walked the line between saleable ready-to-wear and fanciful outerwear.
Metallic makeup and Hitchcockian bouffant hair accentuated the sixties/seventies vibe we have seen from the designer for the past few seasons. Hints of the San Francisco native’s Miami Beach inspired collection for Spring crept in with a striking cantaloupe-sherbet-hued pantsuit featuring a curve accentuating cut to the jacket. The lasting influence of Emma Watson’s bespoke leather-sleeved Burberry trench coat is here with leather (and fur) sleeved outerwear that proves a bit fussier than the more classic separates and dresses.
Lurex eveningwear stood out amongst the statement outerwear pieces, seemingly liquid sequins, and daytime staples with fur and feather accents making their mark. The Charlotte Olympia shoes were the biggest surprise with color blocked accents and – shock! – a lower heel. The designer found the ideal middle ground between standard high-heel and the kitten heel that has plagued the runways intermittently for the past few years.
