Carine Roitfeld: A Wardrobe Retrospective

With Fashion Week just a few weeks away, everyone, especially street-style photographers, is wondering whether Carine Roitfeld will be as omnipresent as she’s been for the past decade. Roitfeld, who recently stepped down from her role as editor-in-chief of French Vogue, amidst rumors that she was fired, has long been a front row staple at all the major shows. Always dressed to absolute perfection, her angular face and daring fashion choices have inspired just about everyone who cares about fashion. Here’s a look at some of her most memorable sartorial moments.

Front row at the Fall 2009 Marc Jacobs show, and looking fierce in a photograph taken by The Sartorialist in April 2009.

Backless and complete with cut-outs, few women – even those half her age – could ever pull off the S/S 2011 Roberto Cavalli gown Roitfeld wore in September 2010. Roitfeld wore a t-shirt with her face on it at the Cannes Film Festival party in 2006.

Here, Roitfeld is at the Paris Vogue 90th anniversary party and masquerade ball, in 2010. Kate Moss is definitely stunning, but Roitfeld beat everyone out at the S/S 2010 YSL show.

It’s hard to imagine a mother and daughter duo looking more eye-catching in Balmain than Roitfeld and her daughter Julia, pictured here at the 2009 amFAR event. Seasons ahead of the sheer, bow, and masculine-inspired trends, Roitfeld looks memorable at the 2005 Met Gala

Even when she’s dressed conservatively, Roitfeld looks dazzlingly sexy. Here, the charcoal-eyed beauty is photographed with Giorgio Armani before the designer received his Légion d’Honneur. Ralph Lauren is certainly not a designer you’d associate Roitfeld with, so it’s fitting that she showed up to the American designer’s Paris flagship store, which opened in April 2010, wearing a cape, lace-up boots, and a bodysuit with lace overlay.
