British Fashion Awards Honors McQueen, Celine and more

The UK is known for its avant-garde designers, but when the British Fashion Awards come around, we truly get a feel for the amount of British talent that is saturating the fashion industry. This year’s ceremony– the UK’s version of the CFDA Awards, always attracting the best and brightest– focused on the winner of the BFC Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design, the late Lee Alexander McQueen. The award was presented alongside a video directed by Nick Knight of SHOWstudio, and styled by Vogue contributor Edward Enninful. The film featured vocals by Bjork, who also sang at the designer’s London memorial during London Fashion Week. McQueen’s collection will be featured in a retrospective exhibition at the Met’s Costume Institute.

Model of the Year went to the ubiquitous Lara Stone (above, left) and a Special Recognition Award went to Naomi Campbell (above, right) who, in custom McQueen, topped most of the night’s best-dressed lists, even though Victoria Beckham did put up quite a fight. Menswear designers Partick Grant for E.Tautz and accessories designer Nicholas Kirkwood won Designer of the Year awards in their respective categories.
