The designer’s most covetable blazers – loose, breezy and done in white or pastel – opened the show and were paired with high waist, cropped ankle pants.
Among the standout looks were the vests – particularly, a white piece that seemed like a cross between a smoking jacket and a vest.
This piece was cut extra long so as to hit the knees of the model as she breezed down the catwalk.
However, some of McCartney’s designs were less than chic. Denim fashioned into caftan-like tops, blazers, shorts, and skirts seemed to miss the mark.
Then again, has anyone ever made head-to-toe or boxy denim appear wearable?
The dresses in McCartney’s spring collection mixed the demure with the overtly sexy, featuring elbow-length sleeves, covered chests, and two thigh high slits up each leg. The models seemed to glide down the runway as the fabric moved beautifully around their legs.
In fact, slits, slashes, and exposing patches of skin were a running theme throughout the show.
This was the case for slashed citrus printed long dresses (a succulent citrus print appeared on everything from mini dresses to vests throughout the show), and backless vests.
Both of these looks were done in stylish, easy to wear ways, putting the designer’s slashing work in high contrast to other designers noted for thigh-high slits (like Gucci and Balmain).
In fact, McCartney, who is expecting her fourth child, could have easily worn any of the looks that made their way down the runway. That’s a true testament to the unique formula of demure sexiness that the English designer has mastered.
