Victoria Beckham S/S11

It has become a custom for Victoria Beckham to narrate her collections; what was once perhaps a medium in which to prove her true participation in the label has now become a tradition that the handful of editors and buyers invited appreciate. The collection, presented in an Upper East Side townhouse, is never groundbreaking, but Beckham’s hands are all over it. Her past collections were often criticized for being reinterpretations of newly resurfaced designer Roland Mouret, but this season, a more relaxed silhouette took the spotlight in a number of unique and charming fabrics.

She explained that she used her own body as a dress form and experimented with new draping techniques for some, whereas the more classic shift styles were cut in pieces to flatter the body.

This season was also her first foray into handbags, and she paired with accessory queen Katie Hillier.

Famous for her collection of skyscraper heels and Hermes Birkins, accessories were an expected path for the designer, and may be a good way for her to change her reputation in the mainstream public towards one of a serious designer.

Being nominated for Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards is sure to help as well.
