Jil Sander Navy Spring 2011 News

The more casual collection sticks with the streamlined, minimalist Jil Sander look, but takes the pops of color (green, orange, magenta), that Raf Simmons has been incorporating into his work with the brand to a more prominent level.

The collection is focused on deconstructed outerwear, lightweight jerseys, and easy knitwear. The line includes a range of separates plus accessories – handbags, footwear, and belts.

Aesthetically, this makes sense as there is a cohesiveness between both the lines, but given that the Navy collection’s prices start at just $125 and only go up to $1,000 (i.e. a fraction of what the luxury Jil Sander line retails for), I wonder if they may be losing out on some customers.

Many customers, for example, who shop on the Barneys Co-Op floor – where prices are typically in the Navy range – do not venture to the floor where Jil Sander is sold.

Will they make the detour? We’ll see in January.
