JEAN PAUL GAULTIER HOME

With Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Donatella Versace, Vera Wang, and even the Marchesa ladies designing home accessories, it was about time that someone more avant garde got into the home designing business. In comes Jean Paul Gaultier.

Gaultier, who at one point had a boutique on Madison Avenue in New York City – designed by Philippe Starck – that had some of the most exquisite furniture pieces, will be teaming up with fellow French brand Roche Bobois, a famed furniture company. This is the second time the couturier is getting into home design. In 1992, Gaultier collaborated with France’s VIA for specially designed items that were featured in the designer’s Paris headquarters. While no images of his new home collection have been released as of yet (pieces will begin to hit in the coming months), WWD was able to get photos of some of the designer’s work at the Elle Decoration’s suite, where he was the latest guest invited to work his renovation magic. In years past, the Elle Decorations apartment has been revamped by Maison Martin Margiela and Christian Lacroix.

The images of the apartment speak for themselves. Gaultier has a unique aesthetic that mixes high-brow design and careful craftsmanship with a sense of humor, resulting in incredibly unique, intricately thought-out spaces and pieces.

Now let’s hope Moschino follows suit, and gets into selling some of their specially designed furniture works.
