This summer has been all about overcoming life challenges. I have been faced with making some serious decisions, while still trying to enjoy the sunshine and wanderlust.
There are certain times in our lives when everything demands attention: Love, life and career all hit the crossroads at once and you need to make a decision now. So, it was time to gain some clarity.
I decided to push my mental and physical boundaries and take to the yoga mat for some light stretching and meditation. But I decided to skip the class and venture out on my own. Taking a fitness class, whether yoga or cardio barre, is an amazing way to work out and feel motivated by those around you. But making yourself do the work solo forces your brain to shut off. Controlling your thoughts and your body at the same time is a true challenge.
This is a “must-do” if you have busy days and a crowded mind. It was the most challenging workout I have ever done. Meditating for 10 minutes felt like I had run in circles for an hour in the dark. As soon as I forced myself to concentrate on my breathing, the beach and the sound of the waves, my brain calmed down and so did my body. It felt so amazing to be able to sit in still mode and leave the noise of my busy social media life behind me and just concentrate on the simplest thing there is to focus on, and that is simply how it feels, #FreetOBe.
I will definitely continue to take charge of my mental workout by hitting the yoga mat for 30 minutes a day and work on finding some balance, peace and clarity in my thoughts. It’s empowering to take charge of your body in this way and completely boosts your confidence. This is no taboo ladies, it’s a “must-do” for strengthening your inner self. It’s not easy, and don’t be discouraged if you find it difficult to just sit still and be. I think practice, as with anything, will make this the most beneficial, and I have no doubt it will encourage a clearer, more balanced mind and lifestyle.
