Throughout 2024, Vogue China has been on our radar perhaps more so than ever before. Covers of the magazine with Fei Fei Sun, Liu Wen, and Xiao Wen Ju have captivated us to no end. Margaret Zhang departed the magazine in September and Rocco Liu is now installed as Editorial Director. Following on from last month with Liu Yifei, Rocco Liu’s first issue at the helm of the Chinese fashion bible is here. The October 2024 edition of the magazine sees Joan Chen, Carina Lau, Vivian Wu, Zhao Tao, and Yan Bingyan take to the cover. In the group-shot cover image lensed by Trunk Xu, the ladies play a game of Jenga and are dressed by stylist Vivienne Sun in looks from Christian Dior.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“I think I can already see Rocco’s vision for Vogue China based on the last two issues. It’s going to be less experimental and artsy, and more safe/elegant/commercial à la Angelica Cheung,” voiced Rigida.
“Crickets…” stated aphextwinks, suggesting the cover was a complete non-event.
“There is potential but the image should have been done in high contrast B&W. The lighting is just terrible,” shrieked a disapproving avonlea002.
Vogue28 voiced: “It’s stale, lackluster, and most definitely not the best group-shot cover I’ve come across. However, I do like the styling and the selection of looks from Christian Dior… very elegant.”
After all, not everyone was so underwhelmed. “I really like this and it’s the different expressions of these wonderful ladies who make it for me. So charming and very happy to see Zhao Tao,” appreciated forum member Nomar.
“I prefer boring Vogue China, tbh. Sue me,” shared blueorchid.
