Perhaps more so than ever, Vogue China is firmly on our radar here at theFashionSpot. The cover for August 2024 with Xiao Wen Ju blew us away, and we genuinely don’t know where you’ve been if you weren’t aware that Margaret Zhang had departed Vogue China after only three years. Rocco Liu is now installed as Editorial Director and drops Liu Yifei as a Vogue China cover star for his very first issue. The Chinese-born American actress poses before the lens of photographer Yu Cong. Against a grey studio backdrop, Liu Yifei is dressed by cover shoot stylist Vivienne Sun. Yifei strikes a pose and gazes down Cong’s lens, sporting a simple white vest top, and black skirt from Chinese designer Chen Peng. Liu Yifei is adorned in jewelry from Bulgari (naturally, as brand ambassador).

“Fashion without boundaries? A basic white vest top and black skirt? All the creativity must’ve been used up with Vogue China’s August 2024 cover shoot,” shrieked vogue28.
“It’s not exciting, and not blowing us away by any means,” Bertrando3 chimed in. “Now, knowing Rocco Liu comes from GQ, you can tell by looking at the cover ALL OF THIS could have been published in GQ China and you wouldn’t tell the difference. It’s not saying… Vogue!”
“This is 2024 not 2014! Please stop doing the same old cover shoots. This is just a WASTE of print,” exclaimed an underwhelmed ChicSaks.
Oaklee91 wasn’t best impressed either, pointing out: “Everything seems a bit vanilla!”
“A boring and tepid intro for the new editor. Seeing what Marie Claire China and ELLE China have achieved, it’s difficult to accept this is the best Vogue China could do for a studio shoot. It’s the September issue and y’all already tired? Goodness,” scolded TerraVera.
“Bored to tears,” shared forum member Serend1pity.
