The world of fashion continues to get into the Olympic spirit ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics which is set to commence later this week. Over recent weeks, we’ve had Anna Wintour rooting for Sha’Carri Richardson, British Vogue‘s Chioma Nnadi championing Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Team Australia is splashed across Vogue Australia. Another edition of Vogue jumps on the sporting bandwagon with the unveiling of its double July/August offering, as Vogue Greece shows support for Team Greece. Across five celebratory covers, the magazine enlisted photographer Richard Phibbs for the occasion, in an ode to winning spirit.
On cover one, Greek model Rosanna Georgiou is joined by members of the men’s national water polo team. World shooting champion Anna Korakaki and model Francesco Ruggiero pose on cover two. Gymnast Eleftherios Petrounias is joined by model Danae Lumani on cover three while long jump athlete Miltiadis Tentoglou and model Esther Mastroyianni team up on cover four. The fifth and final cover sees model Konstantina Pliatsika pose alongside rowing medalist Stefanos Ntouskos.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“All great covers!” applauded VogueDisciple93.
“Love all the covers! They are athletes yet still look like models. They also own that aesthetic so I ain’t mad,” confessed forum member Urban Stylin.
“This is fun for them,” jeremydante admired.
Also full of praise was vogue28, commenting: “Out of all the Olympic-themed cover imagery I’ve seen in recent weeks, this is the most… tolerable. There’s a concept, a sense of cohesion between the covers, and a fashion element, thanks to Nicholas Georgiou’s styling choices. Credit where credit is due to Vogue Greece!”
Not everyone, however, was so smitten. “A missed opportunity. The set design is simple and graphic, but the composition is just not it,” MDNA complained.
“The photography, fashion and art direction is so cheap: Looks like royalty-free imagery,” mocked Phuel.
“No winning spirit to be found,” shared an unimpressed Petrus.
