There’s simply zero denying the fact, that throughout his reign as EIC of British Vogue, Edward Enninful has given us pure unapologetic fashion. From the get-go, Enninful has constantly broken new ground, delivered high-glam covers photographed by industry legend Steven Meisel and championed a whole multitude of models as the British fashion bible’s cover stars.
For October 2023, however, Enninful throws us a total curveball as he welcomes Lily Gladstone and Leonardo DiCaprio onto a duo of questionable covers. To coincide with the release of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, the pair pose for photographer Craig McDean, complete with Enninful himself on styling duties. In cover one (below), Gladstone wears a dress and cape by Chloé, while DiCaprio looms behind wearing Loro Piana. In the second black and white alternative cover (after the jump), DiCaprio changes into a rollneck sweater from Gabriela Hearst as Gladstone wears a blanket by artist Louie Gong for Eighth Generation.
In the eyes of our forum members, the outcome left a whole lot to be desired. “A pretty good Hollywood Reporter cover. Where’s Vogue?” asked KINGofVERSAILLES.
“This, exactly this,” replied vogue28. “My first thought was also The Hollywood Reporter, as opposed to what is first and foremost a fashion magazine – Vogue. Not getting ANY sense of fashion from this cover, despite Lily Gladstone wearing Chloé. Leonardo DiCaprio also looking… less than impressed to be on set. What a sorry-looking cover shoot. Massively MASSIVELY disappointed.”

“Well, this is a dreary little affair isn’t it. No interest in seeing Leo to be honest, in general, and this shoot does absolutely nothing for me,” echoed honeycombchild.
