Anja Rubik Wears Saint Laurent on Vogue Ukraine’s February Cover

Ukraine is on a winning streak. After consistently impressing our forums in 2016, it seems that the glossy is riding the wave of success well into 2017. First, it delivered the ultimate winter cover for January and now, Polish beauty Anja Rubik delights for February in a stark black and white cover photo by Chris Colls. As one of Anthony Vaccarello‘s long-time muses, it should come as no surprise that Anja models a dress from his debut Saint Laurent collection.

Our forum members seemed to like what they saw. “I’m not an Anja fan at all, but she looks better than usual here (to me),” blueorchid confessed the second the cover dropped.

“This is good, albeit more commercial than usual for Vogue Ukraine. If it had said Vogue Paris I would have believed it as well,” a pleasantly surprised anlabe32 stated.

Echoing the same sentiments was Les_Sucettes: “Well not much creative work went into it because it looks like it came straight from Saint Laurent, but regardless, it is just my kind of thing. Might even buy it, could have been a VP cover.”

Narcyza felt the same way, raving, “Love it. Anja is always a perfect choice for the cover and I agree it could be Vogue Paris!”

Nomar liked what saw too, adding, “This looks cool and the pink text was a good choice.”

Unfortunately, the cover wasn’t a total home run. “Maybe I’m supposed to look at this and see ‘fashion’ but instead, my mind sees a sick person losing their skin in a big leathery layer, like a sci-fi nightmare. Just pull on the bottom, and the rest of that skin will slip off, and whatever is underneath will be revealed,” described tigerrouge.

“I think it would be better if her hair was blow dried into a style, the fact that it’s so sleek adds to my unease. Not mad about this, but Anja is the quintessential girl of this collection so it makes sense,” wrote Benn98, who went on to say: “It’s odd to see such a commercial cover when the last few were so narrative driven.”
