Forum Buzz: Natalie Portman’s Miss Dior Cherie Commercial; Kate Moss Wedding Dress Rumors

Natalie Portman for Miss Dior Chérie

A new commercial directed by Sofia Coppola and featuring Natalie Portman for the Christian Dior perfume, Miss Dior Chérie, has been released and the response in the Fashion Spot forums has been lukewarm. The brief, thirty second clip shows Portman tumbling around, flirting with, and kissing a handsome Frenchman while wearing a short black dress (Christian Dior of course) with the famous French song “Je t’aime… moi non plus” by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg playing in the background. “She looks great, but I am not in love with the commercial like previous Miss Dior Chérie/Coppola ones, though maybe the longer version will win me over,” said HeatherAnne

Everyone seemed to agree that Portman looks beautiful, but Coppola’s choice of song received poor reviews. “[Natalie] looks gorgeous in the ad… but that song, ugh, I LOATHE it,” said Alvedansen. Malfreya agreed, saying, “I can’t believe Sofia Coppola, who has such cool music taste picked the most predictable French song ever.” Chances are an extended version of the commercial will show more of the same, but perhaps Coppola can redeem herself in the forum’s eyes with her next project, whatever it may be.

The lookbook is out for Lauren Conrad’s Fall 2011 collection for her new fashion line, Paper Crown, and tFS members are impressed with her growth as a designer. “This is lovely,” wrote loladonna. “I can see where she learned from her previous lines. This line actually seems to be a true reflection of her own style and there is a nice variety and harmony among the pieces.”

Conrad also received praise for the color scheme of her collection. “She was smart enough to tap onto the whole coral/nude color trend,” noted ultramarine. For couturecouture it was the cuts of the clothing that really stood out. “I love that the tailored basics are very versatile and classic, those pieces are investment pieces; expensive but if they are made well enough to last a long time, they are worth it,” she wrote. Time will tell if this collection will be a success. Conrad has already had a namesake collection and a line for Kohl’s. Maybe third time’s the charm?

The Kate Moss Wedding Dress Rumor Mill

Supermodel Kate Moss is engaged to be married to The Kills frontman Jamie Hince this July and rumors are starting to swirl about who will design the fashion icon’s dress for the big day. London’s Daily Mail reported veteran fashion designer Vivienne Westwood’s comments that she thought Moss herself would be designing the wedding dress. The news didn’t seem to phase the forums. Their initial reaction was disbelief that the wedding itself would ever actually take place. “Am I the only one who won’t believe she’s getting married until I see wedding pictures?” asked babydoll1125. *ana* agreed, saying, “I also won’t believe it until I see it, to be honest.”

The topic was forgotten until Moss announced at a Topshop dinner that her friend John Galliano would, in fact, be designing the wedding gown for her upcoming nuptials. “Wedding gown by John Galliano? That will [definitely] be legendary,” thinks ng19. Liberty33r1b agrees that Galliano is indeed “the best choice for her wedding dress.” Whoever designs the dress, it’s sure to be stunning and fashion forward… we’ll see if Moss actually makes it down the aisle.

Michelle Williams has been spotted recently carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag in the classic brown monogram. While there’s nothing wrong with the bag itself, seeing Williams carrying it has been a bit jarring for fans of her style. “She doesn’t seem like a [Louis Vuitton] monogram purse woman,” wrote beauxgoris. Pembldon agreed, saying, “I feel a bit disappointed.” Beauxgoris continued her critique: “She usually favors unique brands like A.P.C., Rachel Comey, etc. The LV purse is a let down of her style for me… LV monogram is very pedestrian to me, the Epi line is a bit more interesting—but yes in general I find those bags to be very unremarkable. Her style is usually more interesting than that.”

LolaSvelt spoke out in defense of Williams (and of Louis Vuitton). “Those bags are quite versatile and appear to appeal to different types of women,” she said. “I must admit I was shocked to see her carry one, but I would be lying if I said I was disappointed. I mean it’s her style, her choice. Nothing to be disappointed about!”

Williams’ cropped blonde hairstyle has been another polarizing style choice in the forums. Some, like PonyShow “like her hair short,” while others, like Cinthia are “really tired of the short blonde hair,” and “hope it’ll change soon.”

I’m guessing that her short blonde hair will continue to be on display for a while, but the Louis Vuitton monogrammed bag… I’m not so sure.
