The first major show of the couture season was the John Galliano-designed Christian Dior Haute Couture show, and what a way to start the season. The designer presented his garments in Dior’s famed Avenue Montaigne headquarters. This follows a growing trend these past few months of legendary brands aligning themselves more and more with their label’s founders – most notably at Chanel, where every recent launch seems to make note of Coco Chanel’s inspiration.
Fittingly, Galliano strayed somewhat away from the heavy lingerie inspiration he has been exploring in his collections these past few seasons, and kicked off his collection with an equestrian theme – albeit one complete with a fitted crimson red jacket, uber high heels, veiled top hat, and amodel with a porcelain painted face.
While the day looks may have had Dita Von Teese written all over them, the gorgeous gowns with their yards and yards of satin, billowing skirts, embroidery, bows, taffeta, and bold baubles would befit any one of Hollywood’s current darlings, and many of these will undoubtedly find their way to a red carpet come Oscar season.
