Tyla turned heads on the red carpet at the 2024 MTV EMAs as she recreated Aaliyah’s iconic animal print look from the 2000 MTV VMAs. The South African singer wore the blue version of the Roberto Cavalli dress that Aaliyah wore 24 years ago, bringing the right amount of edginess for her big night.

At the 2000 MTV VMAs, Aaliyah served an iconic fashion moment when she wore a yellow-black animal print gown from Roberto Cavalli’s ready-to-wear Fall / Winter 2000 runway collection. The late singer’s legacy lives on after she tragically passed away in 2001 at the age of 22. Now, Tyla, who skyrocketed to fame with her hit song “Water” earlier this year, has recreated Aaliyah’s mesmerizing look at the 2024 MTV EMAs.
Tyla wore the blue-black version of Roberto Cavalli’s dress with a zebra-like striped pattern. The floor-length gown features a strapped semi-cowl neckline. The piece is also adorned with a fuzzy fur-like fringe on the hem. The animal print semi-sheer dress continues to add drama with a short train and a thigh-high slit up on one leg.
Tyla completed the award show ensemble with black open-toe and strappy knee-high sandals. Meanwhile, the singer wore her tresses in a messy half updo. She further accessorized the look with a diamond-studded choker necklace. She also wore matching hoop earrings, a bracelet and rings.
Later, Tyla performed onstage during the ceremony and also won big at the MTV EMAs. The singer took home the awards for Best R&B, Best African Act, and Best Afrobeats. Following her attendance at the event, she took to her Instagram to share a carousel of photos from the award show. Meanwhile, fans rushed to the comments section to congratulate the singer on her big win.
