Is Cate Blanchett Wearing a Blonde Wig as a Top?

Cate Blanchett is not one to shy away from taking fashion risks. When you think her outfits cannot get any better, the actor brings a quirky or daring fashion choice for discussion. Recently, Blanchett chose an unusual outfit to attend the premiere of “Rumours” at the 62nd New York Film Festival (NYFF). She arrived on the red carpet wearing a top made out of blonde hair extensions that grabbed significant attention.

Cate Blanchett continues her streak of film festival appearances in eccentric outfits, and this time around, the actor switched silver spoons with a hairpiece for the NYFF red carpet event. According to RCFA, she opted for a top bedecked with blonde hair wefts from the Fiorucci Spring 2025 collection. Hairstylist Taiba Akhuetie, known for using hair wefts to express her art, collaborated with Fiorucci’s new creative director, Francesca Murri, to create the top. Interestingly, Blanchett’s top also matched her real hair, which was styled in a bob with a middle part.

For the rest of the ensemble, Blanchett kept it simple yet chic. She wore black leather pants to create a contrast with her top, pairing it with black pointed-toe heels and a gold chain necklace. Previously, the actor wore similar leather pants to the 2024 Albie Awards, which she attended with her 20-year-old son, Roman. The mother-son duo went for an all-black look, with Blanchett wearing a sparkly and asymmetric black top.

One can always rely on Blanchett to make unprecedented fashion choices. Earlier this month, the actor attended the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in a black suit with spoons embellished at the bottom hem. Meanwhile, she received the Donostia Award at the 72nd San Sebastian Film Festival in an ornamental Armani gown.
