What Does TikTok’s ‘Very Demure, Very Mindful’ Trend Mean?

The world of TikTok is fascinating. It keeps surprising its users with many viral trends every few days, and “very demure, very mindful” is a new addition. The catchphrase exploded earlier this month and is now widely used by most TikTokers and celebrities. It’s safe to say one would need a TikTok dictionary to keep up with the many phrases that pop up on the platform every few days. From “main character energy” to “rizz” and “vibe check,” many TikTok slangs have become a part of day-to-day conversations. Most recently, the word demure became the platform’s new viral trend.

Jools Lebron (@joolieannie) is behind TikTok’s “very demure, very mindful” trend. Several videos of the creator on “how to be demure” have gone viral. At the time of writing, Lebron has over 1.6 million followers on the platform and almost 100 million likes. In one of the many videos, Lebron has shared she is a transgender woman, and she/her/hers are her pronouns.

The demure trend is taking over TikTok, but what does it really mean, and how do you use it? Let’s find out!

Very Demure, Very Mindful’ TikTok trend meaning explained

Jools told CBS Mornings that being demure means “being mindful and considerate of the people around you” but also “of yourself and how you present to the world.” She further shared, “Nothing has to be so aggressive,” and added, “Like everything could just be very cute.” The trend began with Jools’ most popular video, “how to be demure and modest and respectful at the [workplace].”

In the viral video, Jools highlighted how she did her work makeup, adding that she doesn’t look like a “clown,” doesn’t do “too much” and is “very mindful” when at work. Jools added that she “looks very presentable; the way I came to the interview is the way I got the job.” She then explains what “not demure” is—taking the interview like “Marge Simpson” and going to the job like “Patty and Selma.”

At the time of writing, the video has garnered a whopping 32 million views. After it went viral, the TikToker continued to share videos on “how to be demure when you order your food” and “how to do your makeup demure for a family night out,” among other topics.
