Watching Margot Robbie act in Hollywood blockbusters like The Wolf Of Wall Street, it seems impossible that she was ever not the other-worldly and fiercely talented Aussie export that she has become.
But fear not, the co-star of the upcoming film The Legend Of Tarzan is much more relatable than you might think. Last night, Robbie appeared on Jimmy Kimmel to chat about her upcoming film release when Kimmel sprung an old photo on the actress. The picture shows Robbie as a kid, wearing glasses and reading a copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. “When was this taken?” asks Kimmel. “I don’t think I’d even recognise you.”
“Literally the most embarrassing photo of my whole life,” replies Robbie, as she struggles to keep her disbelief at the photo in check. She continues, “Weirdly enough, I think that was actually on my 13th birthday. I’m drinking a cup of tea, I’m in bed,” Robbie says, before revealing that the glasses she is donning weren’t even necessary. “I’m clearly really enjoying myself reading Harry Potter, I have braces, which I had for two years, I was really into slicking my hair back – God knows why – and I am wearing glasses, which I didn’t actually need.”
Turns out Robbie’s vision was perfectly fine, but she insisted on having glasses to embrace her inner Harry Potter fan. “I have 20/20 vision, and I lied to get glasses, so I could look like Harry Potter,” she reveals. “They’re not even cool ones, they’re ugly glasses. I went to the optometrist and I was like ‘Ohh I can’t see that, oww my eyes hurt’. My mum was like, ‘Do you really need glasses?’ and I was like ‘Yes I do.'”
