Kendall Jenner’s New Calvin Klein Ads Are the Most Provocative Yet

Calvin Klein has always has been one to capture contemporary sexuality in a way that jolts us, using familiar faces, and legs, and err…parts. In 1980, the brand had a 16-year-old Brooke Shields spread-legged affirming, “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins.” Twelve years later, Kate Moss and Marky Mark’s raw, unstyled embrace got critics talking once again. The story goes on, with CK sparking controversy season in and season out. Spring/Summer 2016’s Harley Weir-shot “Erotica” campaign marks yet another chapter.

These days, when nude magazine covers and provocative campaigns are a dime a dozen, the label has to go a bit farther to get a reaction. Like, say, having Kendall Jenner pose holding a piece of grapefruit that would make Georgia O’Keeffe blush, proclaiming she intends to eat it.

The Jenner ad is actually one of the more SFW examples. Other photos feature an unnamed model who’s put her pants on backwards for a “belfie” (no Merriam Webster definition required there), Abbey Lee Kershaw’s hand-clasped crotch proclaiming it pulses in its logoed undies, and some artful up-the-skirt action with actress Klara Kristin. If you do get around to noticing the clothes, the lace-accented slip dress seen on Klara, Saskia de Brauw’s dreamy all-white overalls and Kendall’s twist strap sports bra are all cause for a different kind of excitement.

Okay Cal, you got us. Now, can you shock us by announcing a new creative director? Please and thank you.

Oh, and just for fun, let us transport you to a time when Mark Wahlberg called underwear “hype shorts”…
