Lady Gaga and Elton John’s Love Bravery Collab for Macy’s Is Not for the Faint of Style, but It’s Got Heart

We know what you’re thinking: another day, another celebrity-backed, limited-edition line. However, Lady Gaga and Elton John’s Love Bravery collaboration for Macy’s features not one, but two fashion-forward icons — and it’s for a good cause, so that’s triple the reason to give it a second look.

Twenty-five percent of all proceeds from the exclusive collection will go towards the singers’ respective charities, The Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) and The Born This Way Foundation (BTWF), both of which aim to “make the world a kinder and braver place where men and women everywhere are empowered to live with compassion.” Gaga’s BTWF, named for her freedom anthem for minorities, has worked to help young people understand and gain access to mental health services since 2012. The EJAF, which has operated in both the U.S. and the U.K. for over two decades, has raised over $350 million to help treat and safeguard over 150 million people worldwide who are either living with or highly vulnerable to AIDS.

As for the collection itself, well, it’s as comprehensive and bold as you’d expect from two such prolific, flamboyant artists. Designed by Lady Gaga’s sister, Natali Germanotta, alongside stylist Brandon Maxwell, Love Bravery is defined by bold prints, vivid colors and fun, self-aware kitsch. Think enamel pins and patches shaped like electric guitars, microphones, platform shoes and Gaga’s familiar claw insignia, neoprene backpacks that declare “Love,” oversized, piano key printed scarves, tops emblazoned with Lady Gaga’s image — you get the picture. The line even features speakers, water bottles and skateboards if you want to support the cause but value function over fashion (or aren’t as partial to donning Gaga’s face as you are to championing bravery). Prices range from $12 to $99, though apparel prices hover more in the $24 to $59 range.

Says Sir Elton John of the line, “I love the idea of fusing who you are on the inside – your passions and dreams – with what you wear on the outside.”

According to Macy’s spokespeople, Love Bravery is the first in “a series of activations which are planned for the coming months to make people feel proud of who they are.” The line launches online this Saturday, April 30 and in stores May 9, to be sold through August 20. For those wondering, yes, the Lady will soon make an appearance at Macy’s Herald Square to promote the line (sans her Knight). Date to be determined.
