If you hadn’t already noticed, we’re suddenly seeing Queen Bey as we’ve never seen her before.
Mrs. Knowles-Carter has never been one to court controversy, soaring to international superstardom on the back of her music’s feelgood, unifying vibes and her loveable good girl persona.
But ever since her music video for Formation dropped, the days of a smiling, ruffle-no-feathers Queen Bey appear to be over.
Formation is a fiery anthem that features powerful imagery about police brutality and the many injustices still facing people of colour in the US (which was further reinforced by her apparently controversial performance of the tune at this year’s Super Bowl).
And now, Bey is set to take her newfound activism a step further, by reportedly unleashing a politically supercharged new music video that declares all-out war on police brutality by shining a spotlight on the victims whose deaths inspired the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
In fact, according to chatter from fansite The Beyhive, the new video will feature the mothers of 12-year-old Tamir Rice and 18-year-old Mike Brown – both of whom were shot and killed by police – holding up photographs of their sons.

Queen B and her hubby Jay-Z have been quietly active in the Black Lives Matter movement for a while now, appearing at rallies and vigils protesting police brutality and donating money to victims and their families.
But this is the first time that she’s fearlessly tackled the issues head on through her music.
No word yet on when the new video is set to drop, but knowing Bey, it could be any time.
