The latest public figure to call out Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on his lack of progression toward marriage equality is everyone’s eyebrow-envy Cara Delevingne. The fashion model and actress, who has been “pretty open” about her own sexuality, is pushing Abbott to follow suit with the rest of the Western world on the issue. After a historic referendum in Ireland, and most recently the USA legalising marriage equality across the nation, there has been a surge in levels of public support, acceptance and tolerance in Australia.
The model-turned-actress was in Sydney to walk the red carpet at the premiere of her new film Paper Towns, bringing her undeniable star-power to the event in local label Dion Lee. But the 22-year-old beauty, who is dating Annie Clarke aka St. Vincent, had a warning for our PM while doing her thang. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the openly bisexual star called out the PM for not budging on the issue, saying, “Tony Abbott, you better listen to the rest of the world and carry on. Go with it.”

Talking about the recent shift in attitudes around the world, she said, “I’ve been pretty open about myself from the beginning. I think it’s wonderful that, you know, it’s being accepted more and more. And I think everyone has a right to be whoever they want to be. So I’m just very happy.”
Too right, Cara. The fight for marriage equality in Australia has been steadily gaining momentum in the wake of successful campaigns around the world. We believe that regardless of gender or orientation, all love is valid, and should be recognised as equal under the law.
