You may want to start stocking up on Marc by Marc Jacobs items because they won’t be around for long. Following rumors that Marc Jacobs would be absorbing his diffusion range into his main line, Jacobs has come forward to confirm that yes, Marc by Marc Jacobs will very soon be a thing of the past.
On closing the Marc by Marc Jacobs label, Jacobs told WWD, “We’ve gone through many different ways looking at what it was initially and how it had gotten away from that, and I think again we’re back to that same thing. The way to do it is that this is under one label. It just feels like we aren’t doing that job by showing two different collections with two different messages.”
As for Marc by Marc Jacobs designers Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley, Hillier is expected to stay on with Marc Jacobs, though Bartley’s future with the company is still up in the air. The brand intends to hire more people in the future, but doesn’t know if that means all the current staff will stay on.
