Cate Blanchett is a style queen when it comes to the film industry’s biggest events, and has raised her own bar very, very high. Because of that, we were a little underwhelmed to see such a minimal look from the red-carpet pro at the 87th Annual Academy Awards at the Hollywood & Highland Center tonight (ET).
That’s not to say we didn’t love the get-up, including a black high-neck Maison Margiela by John Galliano gown and a statement turquoise Tiffany & Co necklace, it’s just that we’ve gotten used to the wow-factor of her old-Hollywood elegance. It feels wrong to just give her a thumbs up, rather than bucketloads of praise.
We would’ve loved a bit more glamour from the Australian actress, whether it was embellishments, a floaty silhouette, or soft and polished waves. It also struck a bit of déjà vu, with Sofia Vergara repping a similar look at the 2014 Golden Globes.
