In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, WWD reports that Gucci will be making the announcement that Alessandro Michele, its head accessories designer, will be named the new creative director at the label. Michele has been noted as one of Frida Giannini’s likely successors, seeming more likely than other names like Tom Ford, who was briefly rumored to possibly be returning to the Italian fashion house (a rep for Ford denied the claims). Yesterday, it was reported that the Gucci team was making last-minute changes to Giannini’s work for the label’s fall menswear offering and that Michele took the lead on the redesign.
Gucci still has to make an official announcement, but things are looking really good for Michele right about now.
