Possibly the biggest announcement to come from a fashion house this year was that John Galliano, former disgraced Christian Dior designer, would be taking on the role of creative director at Maison Martin Margiela. It was surprising news for everyone. For a while there, people thought Galliano would be joining Oscar de la Renta plus the house of Margiela has been notoriously secretive about the identity of its designers. Hiring such a high-profile name seemed out of character.
Naturally, Galliano’s new appointment begs the question: What does Martin Margiela think? Today, we have our answer. Turns out Margiela has given his blessing on his namesake label’s newest staff member. According to WWD, “The Belgian designer has let it be known that he approves of the appointment of John Galliano as creative director of the house he founded, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.”
And that settles it, folks.
