Is this the worst week ever to be a fashion editor? Following yesterday’s news of layoffs at InStyle, Teen Vogue and André Leon Talley’s exit at Zappos Couture, The Telegraph is the latest major fashion publication to cut its staff. According to The Business of Fashion, the paper is getting rid of several members of its staff, and the fashion department is feeling the brunt of the layoffs. Fashion director Daniela Agnelli has been given the pink slip along with deputy fashion editor Luke Leitch, as well as Charlie Harrington and Frankie Graddon, Stella magazine’s fashion director and junior fashion editor respectively.
This has been a dark week for a lot of fashion editors, but also a signal that there are about to be a lot of changes at these publications. InStyle noted that its layoffs were done in order to make room for newly-created positions, which would include personnel that would help marry the digital and print aspects of the magazine. While we’re not sure about the reasons behind Teen Vogue and The Telegraph‘s layoffs, it seems as if these more established publications are looking to update style-wise in order to keep up with a younger generation of bloggers and editors.
