Dior Is Bringing Its Cruise Collection Runway Show to Brooklyn Next Month

It’s my personal theory that eventually Brooklyn will become so expensive and so overcrowded with ibankers and other bros eager to grind up against each other every morning on the subway during rush hour, all in exchange for a teeny tiny morsel of cultural cachet or whatever, that those of us who live here because it’s a slightly more spacious and affordable alternative to Manhattan will be priced out of this borough and back onto that tiny stupid island of faddish pastries. By my calculations, I have approximately eighteen months max left in Brooklyn before it becomes unbearable here and I’m booted over to — who knows? Queens, Staten Island, (a newly vacant) Manhattan, Los Angeles, Vienna, whatever. Sounds great. Queens has great Chinese food, Staten Island has a ferry and I’ve never visited Vienna, but I hear very promising things about the coffee.

And for that reason — because the world is such a big place and there is room for all of us to thrive in it — I welcome Dior‘s decision to show its upcoming Cruise collection at Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn this May. The gorgous, light-soaked space, which we toured earlier this year just ahead of Alexander Wang‘s Fall 2014 show, appealed to the luxury label because of its unique space and East River views.

“We wanted the show to feel very New York, and the Navy Yard’s view and space captures the city,” a representative for the brand told WWD

To address the traffic issues which plagued guests gridlocked in the labyrinthine Navy Yard after Alexander Wang’s show in February, Dior will arrange door-to-door transport for all attendees, with a combination of car service and ferry transport. The ferry will dock at 34th Street and FDR Drive and disembark directly at the entrance of the venue.
