First, the Game of Thrones details. Having been featured at the TIFF Bell Lightbox last year, the GoT exhibit drew crowds from all corners of the seven kingdoms, nay, the GTA as it showed off an array of costumes, props, armour and weapons.
Now set to return once again to the Lightbox from May 14-18, we can this time expect to see costumes “created by artisans whose extraordinary craftsmanship has lent authenticity to the show since its inception.” The free exhibit will then move to Vancouver where it’ll be housed at the Pacific National Exhibition from August 16 – September 1.
Now for all you Crawley fashion admirers. The Downton Abbey exhibit is being curated by the Spadina Museum and will be on display in Toronto from March 11 to April 13. It will be the first Downton tour of its kind in North America and is set to coincide with the Canadian premiere of Dressing for Downton: Costumes from Downton Abbey.
Tickets will be priced at $25 to $35 and for that you can expect to see twenty costumes, all seen in the first three seasons, along with nine accompanying hats. Lady Sybil’s nurse’s scarf, Lady Cora’s wide-brimmed picture hat and the cloche Lady Mary wore with her pregnancy suit will be just some of the famed pieces on display.
“People will have a fun experience seeing the costumes from the show, and get a better understanding of how fashion trends travelled very quickly around the world,” Karen Edwards, Spadina museum’s administrator, told Star. “Toronto women were able to keep up very quickly with what was happening in Paris and London.”
Now I don’t know which exhibit I’m more excited about. The opportunity to gander at the grandeur of Lannister robes or to covet the romantic idylls of the Downton ladies’ formalwear that has inspired so many modern fashions of late? Decisions, decisions…which are you most eager to visit?
