Think what one may about former President George W. Bush, there is no denying that his niece – designer and model Lauren Bush – has had a remarkable effect in the charitable arena via her omnipresent FEED bag. Launched on behalf of the UN World Food Program to fight world hunger, the FEED Projects will now be adding backpacks to their arsenal of products.
The new bag design is the result of a collaborative effort between Bush’s Feed Projects, designer Kenneth Cole’s Awareness initiative, and Dr.
In the same vein as Toms Shoes – where for every pair of shoes sold, one pair is donated to a child in need – FEED will be donating one bag to a traveling health care worker in sub-Saharan Africa filled with medical supplies (bandages, syringes, condoms, a scale to weigh newborns, training manuals and a cell phone), for every backpack they sell.
Anyone can pick up one of the designs and contribute to the cause beginning August 27th by heading to by heading to select Kenneth Cole stores or by going online to kennethcole.com or awearness.com.
If September is the start of the year when it comes to fashion (as is memorably remarked in “The September Issue”), why not start the year off right?
