TREND: 40’S STYLE

Shoulders have made a huge comeback but, it’s not all about referencing the 80’s. The 1940’s exuded glamour, shoulder pads, sleek silhouettes and exquisite tailoring. Joan Crawford and Katherine Hepburn were famous for their well-tailored looks and androgynous style that created a new, stronger feminine look for fashion than the designs of the 1950’s.

A cinched waist accompanied by an exaggerated shoulder pad, slinky fabric and draping that cascades down the hip and thigh into a soft column skirt was a popular cut for eveningwear. This brief moment of fashion was a very transitional moment into the full skirts that exploded a decade later. Perhaps we are in a similar stage in 2010?
