MTV MOVIE AWARDS FASHION

I don’t care much for awards shows, but I always love seeing what the stars opt to wear. It’s no secret that the fashions have gotten somewhat boring this past award show season, with stars either playing it safe or opting for ridiculous outfits for the sole purpose of getting attention.

Usually I’m not particularly fond of fashion stunts, but I was laughing hard at Sasha Baron Cohen, who came to the MTV Movie Awards as “Bruno the host of Austrian gay TV.” The comedian took the pant-less trend started by Lady Gaga to a new level when he showed off his gams in a leopard cami and a snug pair of underwear. During the show, Cohen flew across the audience, suspended from above and wearing a butt-exposing ensemble. Needless to say, his fashion choices were by far the most exciting ones of the evening and he did a wonderful job at generating buzz for his upcoming movie ‘Bruno’ which will be released on July 10.

As for others in attendance, Leighton Meester – who recently flopped in a harlequin-esque Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton ensemble at the Met Gala – showed-up in a peek-a-boo cut-out Emilio De La Morena Dress, Brian Atwood Brie purple suede booties, and Cathy Waterman jewels. The jewels and the shoes were great, but the dress made her look a bit robotic.

Cameron Diaz played-up her laid back Cali style with cropped skinny jeans, cobalt suede boots, and a leopard print top. Kristen Stewart also went casual in a Yigal Azrouel embroidered taffeta dress that she paired with a pair of Converse sneakers.

The stars of “The Hills” mostly played it safe with simple short dresses. Whitney Port opted for a white dress with a drop, origami style color.  Lo Bosworth went for a turquoise one with no frills and a heart-shaped top, while Lauren Conrad looked the best in a red and navy floral print Moschino sleeveless dress with a ruffled hem and a Christian Louboutin sandals.

Megan Fox showed perhaps a little too much skin in a brocade Dolce & Gabbana mini, while Vanessa Hudgens covered herself-up in an unflatteringly droopy bright orange Max Azria dress. All in all, the night seemed to be more about flops than wins with no celebrity truly standing-out as exceptionally well-dressed, which is why my best dressed of the night goes to Bruno by default. At least Cohen accomplished exactly what he set out to do and managed to entertain while doing so.
