Yes, black is back…but that doesn’t mean color is out. In an extreme opposition to the neutrals and monochromatic moody tones we’ve been seeing recently, color is coming back into the playground – and not in shades of sweet, timid pastels. These colors are fierce shades of neon, including lemon yellow, tangerine, and hot magenta. A few deep jewel tone accents are included for good measure. Exquisite sapphire blue, ruby red and shades or purple will spice up any holiday look this winter.
Michael Kors creates a showstopper in a voluminous lemon-lime fur coat, over a neon yellow dress and pointy pumps.
Andrew Gn offers sweet a cherry mini, trimmed with beading and matching shoes.
Marc Jacobs designs an over-the-top hot pink hooded overcoat in an exaggerated shape.
Narcisco wraps and squeezes his models into fitted dresses in shades of apricot.
Lovely in lavender, Zac Posen creates an asymmetrical cut-out dress in a silky fabric, adorned with ruching details.
Gorgeous shades of deep blue in signature Donna Karan-style draping cascaded down the runways.
Lela Rose adds a little matte and shine with a silk peridot slip dress and tweed layering.
A little color shy? Try adding a small colorful accessory to a black look for a hint at the trend. Neons are reminiscent of fluorescent 80’s fashion, and for those of us who’ve already lived through that, a repeat appearance may not be ideal. Just be thankful designers seem more optimistic this year, and looking towards a brighter future!
