Online auction retail giant eBay is teaming up with Elle, Barneys New York, and an array of lauded design heavyweights for a new environmentally conscious project timed to launch just after Earth Day.
In the Summer of 2008, Barneys New York collected recycled denim and used it to create one-of-a-kind designs that will soon be auctioned off on eBay. 100% of the proceeds are going to support Oceana, the largest international organization focused completely on ocean conservation.
The no-reserve bidding starts at $.99 and the looks for auction include several created by Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Rodarte, Rogan, Anne Demeulemeester, and Versace.
Fashiontribes is reporting that Donatella Versace noted that she was very happy to be invited to participate in this project “as it helps to focus attention on the important environmental issues we now face as a global community.”
The designer creations will be featured in Elle’s May 2009 “Blue” issue and in a Barneys New York Madison Avenue window through May 4th. The auction runs on eBay from April 30th through May 10th.
