Given that many designers cut down on the number of looks that they presented during the Fall/Winter 2009 season, it was somewhat to be expected that the resort lines were going to be the victim of some trimming as well. Cruise shows have been gaining increasing amounts of attention these past few season with the likes of Chanel, Christian Dior, and Gucci staging big budget shows.
This resort season, however, Christian Dior will not be staging a runway show. The French house plans on doing a presentation of their collection to buyers in both Paris and New York instead. The dates and exact locations of the presentations are still under wraps. Similarly, Gucci is opting out of a New York and Rome runway show, choosing instead to present their cruise collection at a presentation in the Gucci New York flagship store on June 15th and 16th.
Chanel is still slated to stage a cruise runway show in Venice on May 14th at the Excelsior Resort’s Lido Beach. The location of Chanel’s cruise show changes season after season and this year, there are a reported 350 guests slated to attend. Oscar De la Renta is also planning on having a resort show. The date is set for June 1st, but the location has not yet been reveled.
