KARA JANX WINS TOP HONORS

Winner of the second annual International Design Awards Competition for her women’s ready-to-wear fashion collection, Kara Janx continues to make her mark in the fashion industry.

Having been a finalist on Season 2 of Project Runway, Janx’s career has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years since the show aired. Armed with a degree in Architecture and an innate sense of color, her women’s collections are fresh, fun, and wearable.

The key item from her signature line – which skyrocketed into popularity after being shown in a Project Runway challenge – is the ever-popular and versatile Maya wrap. It’s a great, staple piece that I first saw in person at the EMC2 boutique which was opened by fellow Project Runway alum Emmett McCarthy in NYC’s Noho.

The South African designer is a full-time New York resident and she’s developed quite a celebrity following. Fans of her work include Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, Debra Messing, Rhianna, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Selected over 1,000 architects and designers of interiors, fashion, products, and graphics from 52 countries, Janx will be celebrated during the IDA gala this March in Los Angeles. The IDA jury is comprised of 50 members, including Qingyun Ma, Dean of Architecture, University of Southern California; Gwynne Pugh, Pugh+Scarpa Architects; the Style Network’s Kahi Lee; John Dunnigan, Rhode Island School of Design; and Brandusa Niro, Editor-in-Chief and Founder, Fashion Week Daily; and other leaders and editors in the design fields.
