This season everyone from Marc Jacobs in New York City to Gucci in Italy has been showing looks that, between the actual fashions and the styling, have the models looking like they could go straight from the runway to a nightclub. Dsquared2 took it one stepped further and channeled the post-nightclub look with models clad in sunglasses (because what’s worse than sunlight when you’re hung-over?), tousled hair, and holding Starbucks coffee, newspapers, and cell phones in their hands.
The looks were jumbled — an elegant black evening gown was, for example, paired with a military style olive jacket – to make it feel like some of the pieces were “borrowed from the boys they spent the night with.”
In a time where Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana appear to be struggling to stay relevant – at least when it comes to their D & G line – the Dsquared2 boys seem ready to take their reigns. The mix of frills (fur, feathers, embroidery), with laid-back plaid, leopard, and leather pieces along with baseball caps and layered scarves worked in a preppy meets glam way that will certainly appeal to the line’s out-and-about demographic.
