HERMES LAUNCHING FIRST SAN DIEGO STORE

Though it has been reported that sales at Hermes have been floundering, forcing the luxury giant to reduce their prices, it seems that the economy has not deterred them on their quest to open a retail boutique in metropolitan San Diego. Hermes has been looking for the perfect spot for the past three years and the president and chief executive officer of Hermes USA Robert Chavez says that they’re long-term thinkers, so the economy is not as much of a factor in their current expansion plans. He continues by saying that they plan 10 or 15 years out, so opening a boutique in San Diego was one of those decisions that’s part of that adding, “we’re here for the long term.”

After over a year of construction, the 2,500-square-foot boutique opens this month at Simon Property Group’s Fashion Valley Mall in La Jolla. WWD is reporting that the store offers all 14 product categories of Les Metiers Hermes, consisting of leather goods, silk scarves and ties, perfumes, men and women’s ready-to-wear collections, watches, fine jewelry, shoes, equestrian, Art de Vivre and Art de Table. It is further being reported that there is a glass display wall for scarves, floor-to-ceiling windows and lots of mirrors, and the boutique has a bright pink beach towel with zebras — an homage to the famed San Diego Zoo – it’s exclusive to the boutique.
