French First Lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy had a baby girl yesterday, and even though we could all stand to pay less attention to the reproductive sagas of the rich and famous, I have to extend my congratulations. Congratulations, pretty lady! Your baby sounds swell.
Bruni gave birth in a private clinic booked in advance yesterday afternoon. Her head of state husband, Nicholas Sarkozy, popped in to meet his firstborn early in the evening, but had to dash after half an hour for a prior engagement with German chancellor Angela Merkel, no big deal.
