Should Kate Middleton Recycle Outfits?

In an interview with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, Kelly Osbourne didn’t fawn (as is customary) when Leno brought up the subject of Kate Middleton‘s style. Commenting about Kate’s recycled dress, Osbourne said:

“If I had that job I would only wear it once. If I am going to be the future bloody Queen of England I’m going to wear that dress once because I’m giving up the rest of my life, all of my privacy. At least I can get a new dress every day!”

And with those fateful words, the world went into outrage mode. Critics attacked Kelly Osbourne for attacking Kate Middleton, for daring even to breath critically in the direction of the Duchess. Normally, I’d be sympathetic with Osbourne’s detractors: wearing a dress only once is wasteful and we have too many models of gratuitous consumption. But Osbourne was only being flip and she makes a decent point: isn’t it nice to imagine that somewhere in the world, someone’s living the fashion dream?
