According to biographer Lisa Chaney, whose Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life will hit bookstores in November, Chanel had more going on than suit-designing and tanning sessions on yachts. Chaney claims that she’s uncovered concrete documents pointing to drug use, experimentation with bisexuality, an affair with the married Surrealist painter Salvador Dali (the pair are pictured on the right), and a romance with a Nazi spy, Hans Günther von Dincklage. Smoking pot, kissing girls at parties, and dating men that were bad for her — talk about trendy! Coco Chanel really was a woman ahead of her time.
WWD reports that Chaney will continue to unveil details as her book’s publication date nears.
