Confirmed: Alber Elbaz Is Leaving Lanvin, Is Dior Next?

UPDATE: The company released a statement saying, “Today the House of LANVIN has ended its collaboration with Alber Elbaz. We would like to thank him for the chapter he has written in the House’s over 125 year history.”

With his romantic, classical designs, Alber Elbaz transformed Lanvin into the “fashion world’s most wanted label” as Vogue once printed, but his time as the head of the fashion house may be coming to an end. WWD reports that Elbaz is expected to announce his exit soon and has already emptied his office. He reportedly informed his design team of his departure and will meet with all Lanvin employees this afternoon.

If the rumors are true, Elbaz’s exit after a 14-year run is the result of clashes with Lanvin’s owner Shaw-Lan Wang and chief executive officer Michèle Huiban. The timing is also interesting as Raf Simons just stepped down as the Artistic Director of Womenswear at Christian Dior and Elbaz would most certainly be a worthy successor. We can’t wait to see where everyone lands in the fashion industry’s latest game of musical chairs.
