Nina Garcia continues to propel ELLE to new heights as editor-in-chief of the fashion glossy by securing a host of A-list cover subjects over the past year, including Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Aniston and Ashley Graham (to name a few). Garcia now adds Gigi Hadid to her esteemed list of cover girls, welcoming the current face of Prada onto the cover for the first time for March 2019. Photographed by Chris Colls, Gigi transports us to the sunny shores of Rio de Janeiro, turning up the heat on three 80s-inspired covers, styled by Ilona Hamer.
One cover, in particular, stood out — but for all the wrong reasons. “Surprise surprise… NOT! I would have loved this shot if it was anyone else but Gigi,” voiced RMDV.
“This is one of the most unrealistic covers I’ve seen in my entire life. Helicopter on a beach, and it’s that close? Plus the hair?” questioned MON.
“If I see one more bad Photoshop job of pasting someone’s body and hair onto a fake background without even trying to make it look real, I will go insane. I can’t believe someone gets paid for this. Such a disastrous execution,” slammed dodencebt.
Although not everyone was disappointed with the covers. “I don’t understand the hate. I think she looks gorgeous and this type of shooting is perfect for Gigi and US ELLE,” appreciated apple.
“The cover with the pink blazer is fantastic! Gigi looks sensational here, and in the editorial. She’s not avant garde, no, but she’s a damn supermodel. And I’m here for it!” rejoiced happycanadian.
