According to WWD, Gaga, Evangelista and Cruz aren’t the only icons Roitfeld looked to complete her portfolio. Included in the spread are Joan Smalls, Gigi Hadid, Claudia Schiffer, Iman, Stacy Martin, Monica Bellucci, Brooke Shields, Lauren Hutton, Stephanie Seymour, Isabeli Fontana, Eva Herzigova, Carolyn Murphy, Laetitia Casta, Mariacarla Boscono, Cindy Crawford and Lara Stone.
Our forum members are certainly buzzing about the new covers, and some went over better than others. Linda’s seems to have been the most well-received: “La Linda. She is giving me everything,” happycanadian wrote. “I don’t know what her magic is, but she manages to exude such expression with her eyes. She really connects with the camera in a way that is truly unique. It’s quite a simple cover, but it’s really stunning, actually.”
“With Linda, if you’d told me in 1994 that she’d still be doing great covers in 2014, I’d have believed you then, and I’m certainly a believer when I look at this,” said tigerrouge.
TeeVanity called Linda’s cover a “must-own.”

Gaga and Cruz’s covers weren’t met with the same enthusiasm, however. GlamVal was disappointed with the way Cruz looked in that Christian Dior Fall 2014 dress: “I’ve seen many photos with the Dior dress that Penelope wears on the cover and all are spectacular, but this is trashy.” He was equally as critical of Gaga’s effort: “Seriously no words to describe how awful…everything is wrong in it; hair, nails, the dog, EVERYTHIIING.”
Indeed Gaga’s cover was the most polarizing, but many took issue with seeing her on Harper’s again. She was just featured on the March 2014 cover, so perhaps there is a little Gaga exhaustion at play here. Another member who wasn’t sure she was the right choice was miguelalmeida: “I still don’t know what she has done for a September cover and to me she isn’t an icon of music, she’s only relevant to her ‘monsters’ (what a sad nickname for fans)! She was someone that was trending and had buzz in the music industry for a 2-year span, someone who for attention did literally everything in every way and got people really tired of her annoying presence….”
