Jillian Michaels Is Not a Fan of the Keto Diet

Chances are, you know someone who’s on the uber-popular keto diet (maybe it’s you?) — a diet that drastically reduces carbohydrate intake and replaces it with fat. The reduction causes the body to go into a metabolic state called ketosis. For many, a diet that encourages you to eat meat, butter and cheese while giving up fruits and some vegetables sounds tempting, but celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels is not a fan.

In an interview with Women’s Health, Michaels shared her dislike of the diet, saying, “I don’t understand. Like why would anybody think this was a good idea? ‘You know what we should do? All fat and animal protein! Ding ding ding!’ No! Bad plan for a million reasons.”

Michaels describes what’s wrong with the diet: “Let’s start with the first one, your cells, your macro molecules are literally made up of protein, fat, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. When you don’t eat one of the macro nutrients, the ones I mentioned, you’re starving your cells. Those macro nutrient cells serve a very important purpose for your overall health and well-being. Each and every one of them. Period. End of story. You don’t eat processed sugar, you don’t eat processed grains. Long story short, avoid Keto diet. Common sense, balance diet is key.”

So, if your New Year’s resolution was to get fit and healthy, you might want to take Michaels’ advice and skip the keto diet. Michaels has plenty of advice on what you should do, however, in her new book “The 6 Keys.” Michaels also posts workout videos and tips on her Instagram to help you live a healthier lifestyle.
