We’ve already raved about the cool beauty looks at New York Fashion Week Fall 2020, but that still leaves three fashion capitals and a whole lot of inspo. So we went back and looked through countless shows to see which makeup strategies really paid off in London, Milan and Paris. And while our forum members may not have loved the clothes sent down certain runways, the makeup was a different story. So which looks really stood out?
The Eyes Have It
The models at Giambattista Valli rocked crystal accents around their peepers, while Simone Rocha’s representatives received broken foil highlights in a variety of metallic colors. Floating eyeliner proved popular for more minimalist approaches. And a lot of makeup artists opted to embrace the two-tone trend when it came to eyeshadow and eyeliner.
Look-at-Me Lips
While red lips will never go out of style, this season artists favored unexpected shades and plenty of sparkle. Models’ puckers at GCDS Fall 2020 were painted in flashy foil colors. Yohji Yamamoto’s cast was treated to diffused lips painted both gray and black for an unfinished effect. Over at Fendi, blurred plum lipstick really made a statement.

Simone Rocha Fall 2020
The deconstructed foil eyes at Simone Rocha really shined. Makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver gave models the glitzy treatment in shades of red, pink and metallic black.

Fendi Fall 2020
Fendi opted for diffused plum lips to complement the backward headband-accented ‘dos.

Stella McCartney Fall 2020
One of the few minimal makeup looks in the three fashion capitals, makeup maestro Pat McGrath drew floating lines of black liner above select models’ creases.

Valentino Fall 2020
Pat McGrath was also behind the eye-catching makeup at Valentino. She added dramatic swoops of black liner accented with striking black crystals.

Altuzarra Fall 2020
Makeup artist Tom Pecheux created two-tone metallic wings for a fresh spin on the traditional cat eye.

Models’ eyes were highlighted by crystal accents courtesy of makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench.

Yohji Yamamoto Fall 2020
The makeup look at Yohji Yamamoto was gothic beauty but fashun. Once again, Pat McGrath got to work creating artsy black scribbles around models’ eyes and partially painted pouts gray and black for a new take on a diffused lip.

Christian Dior Fall 2020
At Christian Dior, makeup artist Peter Philips treated models to varying degrees of black eyeliner. Some received the full kohl treatment, while the liner was more restricted on others. Our favorite? Just a stroke of black liner under the eyes.

Dries Van Noten Fall 2020
Makeup artist Inge Grognard used gray, blue and pink shadow to draw (some) attention away from those matte red lips.

GCDS Fall 2020
If there’s ever a time to go big or go home, it’s during fashion week. Makeup artist Erin Parsons applied foil in flashy shades of lilac, green and pink to models’ lips.

Missoni Fall 2020
Models at Missoni were not only treated to colorful shadow around their eyes, they received sharp strokes of liner underneath and off to the sides.

Erdem Fall 2020
Broken silver foil was added in abstract fashion to models’ eyes at Erdem.

MSGM Fall 2020
Bleached brows and red hot lips made for a remarkable pairing.

Maison Margiela Fall 2020
Painterly shadow is still a thing on the runway and Pat McGrath relied on the trend to amp up the beauty look at Maison Margiela. Bright orange and light purple were painted on all the way up above brows and out toward the hairline.

Gucci Fall 2020
Who cares if your mascara is running? The most standout beauty look at Gucci involved adding coats to the waterline, then diluting the mascara with water to create the crying effect.

Richard Quinn Fall 2020
Another case of two-tone eye makeup, the models at Richard Quinn rocked colorful shadow on their lids as well as colorful liner along their waterlines.

Matty Bovan Fall 2020
The eyes really made a statement over at Matty Bovan. Makeup artist Miranda Joyce used two colors to make models’ peepers pop.
