Fasten your
utility belt bag because it’s that time of year again. New York Fashion Week Spring 2020 just wrapped and was full of clothes to covet. But not even the to-die-for runway fashion and inspiring
street style will distract us from the stunning beauty looks. While we haven’t even seen what London, Milan and Paris have to offer, some major beauty trends have already developed.
The biggest takeaway? Look-at-me looks that wouldn’t look out of place in the 80s. The famous unabashed excess the decade is known for was represented everywhere, from hair to makeup. Before you cringe, know that these looks are bold, but not super cheesy. To go along with the
80s revival , bright makeup was also a fixture at many shows. Fruity pops of color decorated eyes and lips with multiple striking shades paired together. There was also a whimsical, artsy approach reminiscent of
Euphoria ‘s eye-catching beauty looks.
Can’t get enough of flashy
hair accessories ? You’re in luck because adding bling to strands is still going strong. Designers dreamed up new ways to shine, from a constellation of rhinestones to OTT floral accents. Sleek, wet-look hairstyles also proved their staying power so you’ll still be able to rock the frizz-fighting look come spring.
Here are the 22 best beauty looks from New York Fashion Week we can’t wait to copy.
The Best NYFW Spring 2020 Beauty Looks We're Dreaming About
Sies Marjan
Sies Marjan supplied two distinct beauty looks. The one boasting redder-than-red lips with natural skin oozed glamour, but it was this wash of pink across all features that was our favorite.
Cynthia Rowley
The inspiration for Cynthia Rowley's show was Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss. The white cloud-like eyeliner was a fitting whimsical tribute.
Proenza Schouler
That ponytail, though. Hairstylist Guido Palau continued to champion 80s beauty with wet-look, down-to-there ponytails wrapped in leather. Meanwhile, makeup artist Diane Kendal swiped bronze or slate gray shadows from eyes up to brows for a cool, masculine take on the decade.
Marc Jacobs
Makeup artist Pat McGrath created a unique look for every single model and it's nigh impossible to choose a favorite. One takeaway? Major lashes and a touch of bling are always a winning combo.
Self Portrait
The Self-Portrait show was a playful reminder to be bolder with lipstick. Fresh skin was punctuated with striking lip colors, including soft peach, lilac and fuchsia.
Jonathan Simkhai
Jonathan Simkhai's Spring 2020 collection was inspired by the art of Georgia O'Keeffe. This shot of yellow eyeliner with a whisper of terracotta lipstick tied in beautifully. Makeup artist Gato used Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon Lipstick in Enjoy the View ($9.49).
Christian Siriano
Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Erin Parsons used a combination of brushes and her fingertips to achieve the painterly finish.
Tom Ford
Leave it to Tom Ford to make crimping chic. The look played into 80s beauty by going in a glam, new wave direction. Lead hairstylist Duffy created the effect by using plenty of mousse in the triple-knotted updos.
Oscar de la Renta
Models at Oscar de la Renta were given two-tone cat eyes that extended back to the hairline. It's a toss-up which color combo was prettier: this kelly green and hot pink one or the electric yellow and orange version.
Nicole Miller
The makeup was pure fire at the Nicole Miller Spring 2020 show with shades of electric yellow, red and glittering gold blended across models' peepers. Not to be overlooked were the random patches of pastel strands created by the Oribe team.
Chromat
Chromat was another show that inspired us to use more color. From two-tone negative space eyeliner to this saturated blue and orange combo, it was go big or go home.
Jonathan Cohen
Here's a fresh way to style a scarf . Laurent Philippon weaved pieces of printed fabric into braids. Sweeps of fiery red or yellow eyeshadow completed the hot girl summer look.
Helmut Lang
The traditional cat eye was given a makeover. Black eyeliner was used, but bright kelly green and shocking pink were the standouts.
Ulla Johnson
Statement earrings (organic blown-glass danglers) with painterly kelly green eyeliner proved to be a winning combination.
Bibhu Mohapatra
The clusters of diamantés on the side of models' heads looked like constellations. Bronze eyeshadow added to the megawatt finish.
Khaite
Forget barrettes and headbands. The headpieces at Khaite are officially our new obsession. Wella Professionals Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman crafted the pieces after drawing inspiration from one of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco's iconic looks.
3.1 Phillip Lim
The black eyeliner game was strong at 3.1 Phillip Lim. Makeup artist Diane Kendal filled in the entire lid with eyeliner. From afar, it looked like straight black liner, but she used different colors from the UZ 7 Shades of Black range .
Prabal Gurung
Spring definitely sprung at Prabal Gurung. Hairstylist Laurent Philippon for Bumble and bumble adorned select wet-look hairstyles with floral headpieces. Makeup was kept understated to keep the focus on the blooms.
Jeremy Scott
It wouldn't be NYFW without Jeremy Scott bringing all the color and drama. For Spring 2020, the designer drew inspiration from the 80s cartoon Jem and the Holograms . Everything was extra, from the fluorescent wigs to the nail art. The latter was decorated with different zany prints courtesy of Miss Pop.
I Love Pretty
We were crying happy tears over the delicate rhinestone embellishment under models' eyes at this show. There's no need for much else.
Anna Sui
Models were literally starry-eyed at Anna Sui. Makeup master Pat McGrath made the eyes the statement, decking them out with everything from hot pink eyeshadow to star embellishments to rhinestones to looping white wings. Those who find the look too OTT for real life can just try the romantic half updo.
Afffair
Everything about this beauty look was on point, from the floral and beaded hair accessories to the coordinating eye makeup and nails.
