It’s fall so many of us are considering which pumpkin beauty products to buy and thinking of ways to prolong our tans. But the fashion calendar is (mostly) looking forward to Spring 2019. New York Fashion Week showcased a number of head-turning beauty looks that make us want to skip fall and winter altogether and jump right into spring.
There were a few collections that promoted a less-is-more approach with glass skin and the faintest wash of color. They’re great everyday options, but if you’re after something that makes a statement, there was plenty of drama in terms of hair, makeup and nails. And sometimes we got all of the above in one show. Focusing on makeup, many shows didn’t shy away from color. Some presentations made a case for how wearable color can be with well-placed pops of it. See the hint of lime green at Christian Siriano or the hot pink mascara at Ulla Johnson. Others made us want to break out of our neutral comfort zones and apply bold shades to the entire face. Statement lips were a reoccurring theme, whether they were impeccably filled in with red lipstick or given a foiled effect so shiny it almost required sunglasses to look at. (Thank you, Jeremy Scott.) Sparkle addicts take note: there was glitter, glitter and more glitter.
Not to be outdone by the dramatic makeup, there were plenty of #hairgoals moments. The half-up bun was a firm favorite with hairstylists literally presenting new twists on it. Natural textures were celebrated along with bold hair accessories of varying degrees of conventionality. If the fashion shows in London, Milan and Paris are this inventive, we’ll have plenty of beauty looks to work on perfecting when spring actually does roll around.

Jeremy Scott
Glitter lips were taken to the next level at Jeremy Scott with a pewter foil effect. With kissers this bold, the rest of the face didn't need much else.

Kate Spade New York
The Spring 2019 collection was a tribute to the late founder who "left a little sparkle everywhere she went." The sentiment was incorporated into makeup with a smattering of fine gold sparkles on models' eyes.

Brock Collection
Bored with the traditional hun (aka half-up bun)? Brock Collection provided an easy update with a relaxed parted style. Paired with a hint of peach blush and a rosebud lip tint, the look epitomized insouciant beauty.

The Blonds
Forget princesses. The Blonds made us want to unleash our inner Disney villain. The beauty was as bewitching as the clothes with models serving up their best Evil Queen and Maleficent with blood red lips, ornate talons and hairstyles topped with bejeweled spiky crowns, natch.

Mansur Gavriel
The cult brand technically presented its Fall 2018 collection, but the spring mood wasn't completely lost on the show. Hair was decorated with dainty flowers and pastel eyeshadow made the effect that much dreamier.

Rodarte
We'll see what Milan Fashion Week brings, but Dolce & Gabbana might be beat by Rodarte in the opulent floral hair accessories department. Models had blooming, beautiful headpieces with equally bold makeup and jewelry adding to the head-turning finish.

Ulla Johnson
The colored mascara trend isn't going away as evidenced by Ulla Johnson. Models' eyes were woken up with several coats of hot pink mascara on the top lashes. Peach blush and lipstick elevated the summer feeling.

Anna Sui
Not even the tipsy half-up buns at Anna Sui could completely distract from the gradient yellow eyeshadow to pink blush. It was like a sunset on the face. It may not be the most wearable look for every day, but it's a fresh option for festival beauty.

Self-Portrait
Take a closer look: what at first glance seems like a natural makeup look is really subtle face painting. Makeup artists drew hair-thin lines on models' eyes, lips and occasionally cheeks.

Nicole Miller
If you needed further proof that big hair is back, look to the Nicole Miller show with its disco queen, bouncy curls. Lived-in gray smoky eyes and checkerboard, flame and "bad" nail art brought a punk finish to the gravity-defying hair.

Tadashi Shoji
The runway show fed our need for glitter with supersized gradient glitter flicks in shades of blue and red. Because it wasn't enough sparkle, nails were decorated with coordinating glitter nail polishes.

Escada
Sometimes you just can't fault a classic, especially when it's perfectly applied red lipstick complemented by dewy skin. Take inspiration from the runway and style the timeless makeup with swept-back, woke-up-like-this hair.

Christian Siriano
Get ready for lime green to be a big color next season, especially if Christian Siriano has anything to say about it. The zesty color from the collection was tied in via the makeup with a surprisingly wearable eyeliner flick paired with a beautifully bare face.

Alexander Wang
Is it the new trendy accessory? Nope, it's face paint. Select models' faces were decorated with thick black stripes with stars for a bandana effect — and likely a political message.

Area
Can't decide between a bun and a ponytail? Don't. Take a cue from Area and loop your hair into a bun at the side of your head, leaving part of the tail loose to form a pony. The brand's version featured thigh-skimming tails, but you can go shorter.

Eckhaus Latta
Eckhaus Latta made a strong case for minimalist lip art with random flicks of color decorating bare lips. The wet, glossy finish and the way the lip color splotches coordinated with the clothes made it all the more appealing.

ADEAM
It was another gorgeous twist on a no-makeup makeup look at ADEAM with a dusting of light brown eyeshadow and clear lip gloss. The lack of color on the face was made up for with rhinestone embellished nails.

Tom Ford
The chicest way to conceal a bad hair day or cover greasy roots came from Tom Ford. Models' heads were covered with luxurious neutral scarves. The glamorous 70s look was carried to makeup with smoky eyes, nude lipstick and a pop of pink on cheeks.

Pyer Moss
Natural hair was celebrated in all its full, thick beauty at Pyer Moss. Equally striking was the striped eye makeup that went from gold and white in the inner corners to shades of turquoise, mint and kelly green along the lower lash lines. Get your colored liners ready.

Hellessy
Forget about contouring, strobing or copious amounts of bronzer. Hellessy will have you dusting liberal amounts of red blush on top of glowing skin and finishing with a coordinating red lipstick.

Lanyu
At Lanyu, the eyes were the perfect canvas for watercolor strokes of color on a silver eyeshadow base. The always popular low braid was also energized with color. Pink and blue extensions were woven into the plait, then extended beyond the ends a la My Little Pony.
